1. General information

At the end of this subject the students will have acquired the knowledge corresponding to the different pathologies and medical and surgical conditions, the causes, prevalence and treatments, related to the nervous and locomotor systems, especially those that generate disability.

This knowledge of the causes, clinical and epidemiological aspects, diagnostics and therapeutics of the different processes will allow access to the use and applications of specific occupational therapy techniques that are covered in other subjects.

2. Learning results

  1. Acquire knowledge of general, nervous system and locomotor system morbid processes and medical-surgical pathology in the context of occupational therapy.
  2. Assess the patient's needs by planning and developing the most appropriate individualized intervention programs for each pathological situation of the nervous and locomotor systems and apparatuses.
  3. Apply appropriate treatments for occupational performance in institutional settings, home and work settings and in the pathologies of the systems studied.
  4. Use the concepts and theories learned in relation to medical-surgical conditions in the different stages of life and in the different occupational areas.

3. Syllabus

UNIT I. GENERALITIES OF MEDICAL-SURGICAL CONDITIONS.

BLOCK 1. PATHOLOGY OF THE NERVOUS SYSTEM

UNIT II. CONGENITAL AND INFECTIOUS DISEASES OF THE CNS.

UNIT III. ENDOCRANIAL HYPERTENSION SYNDROMES. INTRACRANIAL TUMORS.

UNIT IV. MOTILITY PATHOLOGY. PYRAMIDAL SYSTEM. EXTRAPYRAMIDAL SYSTEM. SPINAL CORD . CEREBELLUM.

UNIT V. DISEASES OF THE PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM AND CRANIAL NERVES.

UNIT VI. NEUROLOGICAL PATHOLOGY IN CHILDHOOD.

BLOCK 2. PATHOLOGY OF THE LOCOMOTOR SYSTEM

UNIT VII. INTRODUCTION TO THE PATHOLOGY OF THE LOCOMOTOR SYSTEM.

UNIT VIII. TRAUMATOLOGY. TRAUMATIC INJURIES.

UNIT IV. INFLAMMATORY AND INFECTIOUS PATHOLOGY OF THE LOCOMOTOR SYSTEM.

UNIT X. DISEASES DUE TO DEPOSITION. ENDOCRINOMETABOLIC OSTEOPATHIES. CONNECTIVOPATHIES.

UNIT XI. DEGENERATIVE AND TUMOR PATHOLOGY.

4. Academic activities

Theoretical classes in a large group (40 hours): 2 hours per week throughout the term.

Seminars on problem solving and case studies in groups (60 hours): 2 hours per week/group throughout the term.

Teaching assignments and other activities (45 hours): Activities related to the seminars and realization of a group work (4-5 students) that will be defended publicly on dates to be scheduled in advance.   

Personal study and evaluation: 105 hours.

5. Assessment system

Seminar evaluation (30% of the final grade):

  • Attendance (at least 85% of the sessions is mandatory).
  • Active participation.
  • Carrying out of the proposed activities.
  • Preparation and presentation of group work.  

The grade obtained in the evaluation of the seminars is saved during the same academic year.

Written tests (70% of the final grade)

  • Mid-term exams: eliminatory mid-term exams will be held at the end of each block on the contents covered up to that moment, both in theoretical classes and in seminars.
  • Final exam: In the first official call, of the contents of the entire subject for students who have not taken the mid-term exams and of the part/s not passed for those who have taken the mid-term exams. In the second official call examination of the contents of the entire subject (grades of midterm exams will not be saved). 

In order to establish an average with the grade of the seminars, the exams of the subject must be passed.

1. Información básica de la asignatura

Al finalizar esta materia el alumnado habrá adquirido los conocimientos correspondientes a las diferentes patologías y afecciones médicas y quirúrgicas, las causas, prevalencias y tratamientos, relacionadas con los sistemas nervioso y locomotor, especialmente aquellas que generan discapacidad.

Estos conocimientos sobre las causas, aspectos clínicos y epidemiológicos, diagnósticos y terapéuticos de los distintos procesos permitirán acceder al uso y aplicaciones de técnicas específicas de terapia ocupacional que se abordan en otras materias. 

 

2. Resultados de aprendizaje

  1. Adquirir los conocimientos de los procesos morbosos generales, del sistema nervioso, del aparato locomotor y de la patología Médico-Quirúrgica dentro del contexto de la Terapia Ocupacional.  
  2. Evaluar las necesidades del paciente planificando y desarrollando los programas individualizados de intervención más apropiados en cada situación patológica de los sistemas y aparatos nervioso y locomotor. 
  3. Aplicar los tratamientos adecuados para el desempeño ocupacional en los ámbitos institucionales, domiciliarios y laborales y en las patologías de los sistemas estudiados. 
  4. Utilizar los conceptos y teorías aprendidas en relación con las afecciones médico-quirúrgicas en las diferentes etapas de la vida y en las distintas áreas ocupacionales. 

3. Programa de la asignatura

UNIDAD I. GENERALIDADES DE LAS AFECCIONES MÉDICO-QUIRÚRGICAS.

BLOQUE 1. PATOLOGÍA DEL SISTEMA NERVIOSO

UNIDAD II. ENFERMEDADES CONGÉNITAS E INFECCIOSAS DEL SNC.

UNIDAD III. SÍNDROMES DE HIPERTENSIÓN ENDOCRANEAL. TUMORES INTRACRANEALES.

UNIDAD IV. PATOLOGÍA DE LA MOTILIDAD. SISTEMA PIRAMIDAL. SISTEMA EXTRAPIRAMIDAL. MÉDULA ESPINAL. CEREBELO.

UNIDAD V. ENFERMEDADES DEL SISTEMA NERVIOSO PERIFÉRICO Y PARES CRANEALES.

UNIDAD VI. PATOLOGÍA NEUROLÓGICA EN LA INFANCIA. 

BLOQUE 2. PATOLOGÍA DEL APARATO LOCOMOTOR

4. Actividades académicas

Clases teóricas en grupo grande (40 horas): 2 horas semanales a lo largo del curso. 

Seminarios de resolución de problemas y casos en grupos (60 horas): 2 horas semanales/grupo a lo largo del curso. 

Trabajos docentes y otras actividades (45 horas): Actividades relacionadas con los seminarios y realización de un trabajo grupal (4-5 alumnos) que será defendido públicamente en fechas que serán programadas con antelación.    

Estudio personal y evaluación: 105 horas. 

5. Sistema de evaluación

Evaluación de los seminarios (30% de la nota final): 

  • Asistencia (obligatoria al menos al 85% de las sesiones).
  • Participación activa. 
  • Realización de las actividades propuestas.
  • Elaboración y presentación del trabajo grupal.   

La calificación obtenida en la evaluación de los seminarios se conserva durante un mismo curso académico. 

Pruebas escritas (70% de la nota final) 

  • Exámenes parciales: se realizarán exámenes parciales eliminatorios al finalizar cada bloque sobre los contenidos abarcados hasta ese momento tanto en las clases teóricas como en los seminarios. 
  • Examen final: En 1ª convocatoria oficial, de los contenidos de toda la asignatura para los alumnos que no se hayan presentado a los exámenes parciales y de la/s partes no superadas para los que se hayan presentado a los exámenes parciales. En 2ª convocatoria oficial, examen de los contenidos de toda la asignatura (no se guardan calificaciones de exámenes parciales).  

Para establecer promedio con la calificación de los seminarios deberán estar aprobados los exámenes de la asignatura.
